Isfahan or Sepahan, the capital of Isfahan province, located in the center of Iran, is of the greatest and most attractive cities in Iran.
Isfahan, due to its numerous mosques, is known as the city of turquois domes, and is also famous as “Nesf-e Jahan” (Half The World) because of its Persian-Islamic architecture, its antiquity, unique arts and monuments.
Isfahan after Tehran and Mashhad, is the third largest city of Iran. Its population is composed of various tribes, races and religions including Bakhtiari, Lurs, Turks, Georgians, Gypsies, Armenians, Jews and Zoroastrians.
The golden time of Isfahan dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries under the Safavid dynasty, when it was chosen as the capital of Iran for the second time. The Safavid dynasty was one of the most important ruling dynasties which had a great influence in development of Isfahan.
Isfahan holds many incredible monuments like, Naghsh-e Jahan, Jameh Mosque, Vank Cathedral and historical bridges on Zayanderud such as, Si-o-se-pol and Khaju bridge. On the other hand, since it is bordered by deserts and mountains, you can enjoy Camel Riding in Mesr and Varzaneh deserts and skiing in Fereydunshahr, or go for a walk to places such as Nazhvan Park and Sofeh mountain.
