Overview

A nomad family of the Bakhtiari tribe, living in Zagros Mountains, has given the tour its name. Members of this family have lived in Baba Rouzbahan region in Khuzestan province for generations. In this tour, the family will host us for a day. Here we will experience the local nomadic lifestyle, taste their food, and sleep in tents under a beautiful night sky. In addition to this, walking along the path nomadic families of the region have taken for 8000 years along Karoon river, will let us into the story of the region with its people. Here we will also visit historical sites of Shushtar, Khuzestan province, and explore the wonderful landscapes of Zagros Mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1: Ahvaz

After welcoming you at Ahvaz International Airport, at 9 a.m. we will head for Chogha Zanbil Village. Here we will visit one of the few existing ancient temples, called Ziggurat. Afterwards, we will stop by one of the most interesting prehistoric sites of Iran, called the hydraulic system of Shushtar. Here we will also go for a walk in the city, and have a coffee and lunch break. The last stop on the day’s itinerary will take us to Baba Rouzbahan village. We will meet the local nomads and spend the night there.

Day 2: Exciting Day with Nomads

We will have breakfast and set out for a three-hour-long trekking experience in the Zagros Mountains. Then we will stop by the next nomadic family to experience their lifestyle and daily routines. We will try baking local bread, milk the cows, and go walking with the shepherds. At the end of the day, we will sleep at black tents, unique to the nomads of the region.

On the third morning we will open our eyes to a day in a nomad’s life, which starts early. It will give us a chance to stroll along the tents, watch the breathtaking landscape of Zagros, and enjoy the nature. After breakfast at 8:00 a.m., we will say goodbye to our host family and drive to Andika Village and Shimbar Lake. At the end of the day, we will stay in a local house in Mavarz Village, located near the river.

Today, we will go to Dezpart Steps. These ancient paths and steps have been used by the nomads of the area for thousands of years. It is an area of outstanding beauty especially the Khoda Afarin Bridge and the historical steps. Finally, we will go to Mavarz village in Koohrang. For lunch, we will have local food in a rural house. After lunch, we will drive to Isfahan and then Tehran.
