From the northeast to northwest, and northwest to southeast, the Iranian Plateau is covered by mountain ranges hikers dream about. The Zagros and Alborz mountain ranges with their famous peaks, such as Damavand mountain, promise a unique experience. The hike will begin in the Zagros mountains. The trail will trace the paths nomadic tribes of Iran take during their seasonal migration. This means hikers’ experience will be saturated with the authentic culture of the locals of this area. The hike will rise to an altitude of 12 feet, to reach Keyno Peak and Tembi Lake. Along the way, we shall pass by several mountains and pastures used by nomads. The area has remained intact from technology, making it a suitable resort from modernity.
We will start our journey from Isfahan in the morning. We will be headed for Shahr-e Kord, the central city of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province. Our destination are the villages settled by nomads. We will also get the chance to enjoy the beauty of Zagros’s nature. We will arrive in the peaceful village of Gazestan after a 5-hour-long drive. It is located on the foothills of the mountain.
In the afternoon, we will go hiking for 3 hours in Dezpart Steps to get to the Khoda-Afarin Bridge. The bridge’s name means created by God, because this fascinating bridge has been made naturally over the Bazfort River. The Despart Steps date back to 6000 years ago. They have served as the only passage for nomads to use during the migration seasons for 100 years. Unfortunately, only 73 steps have remained to this day. We will spend the night at a house in the village.
If we leave the village early in the morning on the second day, we’ll reach Lebd district at 8 a.m. The hiking of the day promises amazing views of the surrounding mountains and valleys (which are sometimes U-shaped). After hiking for 7 hours, we will get to the Tembi Lake behind the mountain range. Once we get there, we will set up a camp near the lake.
The third day will begin with a view of the sunrise, which will make a once for a lifetime experience. More challenges are expecting us on this day, as we will push further to the summit of Mt. Keyno. But the experience is fulfilling enough to endure the hardship. During the hike, we will also meet the nomads local to this area. Once we achieve our goal, we will camp there, take a rest and have the last dinner of our tour on top of the mountain.
This is the last day of our Odyssey. We will say goodbye to the nomads and descend the mountain. Then we will hit the road to Isfahan on our car
