Yakhab wildlife refuge, a home to a variety of wildlife species:
Yakhab wildlife refuge is one of the largest areas under the conservation of Environment Organization of Esfahan Province which is located at the adjacency of Desert National Park. With more than 100 bird, 30 reptile and more than 20 mammal species, this area is known as one of the richest habitats of desert areas. The height level difference in this area is about 2000 meters which has resulted in diversity in climate and fauna and flora in the area. Each season of the year, the area has its unique features and any time of the year could be an opportunity for watching wildlife. Of the special attractions of this region, we can mention the various and beautiful landscapes, fossil areas and Karshahi Fort. This region is one of the main crossing places of immigrant birds; the birds like bustard are seen in winter which is a good opportunity to take nice photos of these beautiful creatures. Also in spring, you can see herds of wild goats (capra aegagrus), goats (capra aegagrus hircus), mouflons (ovis orientalis) and chinkaras (Gazella bennettii) there.

Description

Yakhab Wildlife Refuge and Abuzeidabad Desert is a combined cultural & historical, eco and wildlife tour. In this trip, we will visit one of the most original local cultures in the town and villages of the region and will get familiar with their costumes, ceremonies, souvenirs and special style of farming. We will also visit the 400 year old Karshahi Fort. One of the interesting parts of this tour is watching the rich wildlife of the area; we are going to visit some animal species such as goat (capra aegagrus hircus), wild goat (capra aegagrus), bustard (otididae), sandgrouse (pteroclidae), monitor lizard (varanus), brilliant ground agama (trapelus agilis), horned viper (pseudocerastes) and Ruppell's fox (Vulpes rueppelli). Also watching water birds like flamingo. We have also planned offroading on the sand hills and observing starry sky night of the desert with a special guide with astronomy expertise.

Day 1
Day 1

At 7:00 AM, we depart from Esfahan and at 9:30 AM, we will arrive in Abuzeidabad town to have breakfast at Nane Kolsoom ecolodge. After the breakfast, we will go to see the 400 year old Khaje Complex with a local guide. There, we will visit a clothe washing house, a mosque, a water reservoir and a historical bath. Then, you will have the tour in Abuzeidabad town and Mohamad Abad Village to get familiar with local people’s culture and dialect. To know more about that rich culture, we have planned to visit Mohamad Abad Propagation and Educating Handicrafts Center. At this place, you can get familiar with the handicrafts and learn how to weave a carpet. You can take the tools and try weaving. Also you can go to the museum and visit the collection of antiques and the photos of famous people and the kings in the past. Then we will go the ancient Qanat of Mohamad Abad and get familiar with the ways of managing water resources in the past. At 2:30 PM, we will have lunch at Nane Kolsoom ecolodge. According to the season, you can visit the farms and the agricultural products (like saffron and pistachio) and learn about the process of cultivation and harvesting them. If you want, you can help the local farmers harvest the products. As Abuzeidabad is one of the best places in making rose water and other organic herbal essences in Iran, at 6:00 PM, we will go to a workshop to see the process of making herbal essences. After the rose water making workshop, we drive towards Abbasi Caravanserai and after the visit, you can drink a traditional juice in its traditional restaurant (Toranj and Shariaran traditional restaurants are also suitable to have a snack). After the caravanserai, we head to buy some delicious products of Abuzeidabad (like sweets and herbal juices). In there, you will get familiar with the town’s souvenirs, too. We drive towards Nane Kolsoom ecolodge to have dinner at 9:00 PM. At 11:00 PM, we go to the desert to observe the stars and get familiar with astronomical photography. Then, we will get back to Nane Kolsoom ecolodge to spend the night.

After breakfast at the ecolodge, at 7:30 AM, we drive towards Yakhab wildlife refuge and will be there at 9:00 AM to watch the king of Iran’s rocks, goat and wild goat. After some hiking and watching the wildlife of the area (species like partridge, See-see partridge and horned snake) and learning about the vegetation of the region, we head to the one of largest mud brick forts of Iran, Karshahi Castle. A castle with Iranian architecture known as the adobe gem of the desert that has kept secrets in his heart among that dead silence of the desert. After having some snacks and drinking some herbal tea of the plants by the fountain and beautiful Qanat of Karshahi Fort, at 11:30 AM, we will go to Karcheh farm (tourist camp) to have lunch. You will enjoy the pleasant fresh air and breathtaking landscapes during the meal. After a short rest, we move towards the fossil area. En route, we have time to see some farms and become more familiar with local people’s farming and style of living. After passing a 2 hour path, from a mountainous habitat, you will get into a unique desert one with a different biodiversity. In this area, you will learn about plant and animal species of the desert habitat. If we are in luck, we can see some species such as Ruppell's fox (Vulpes rueppelli), sand cat (felis margarita), desert monitor (varanus griseus), sandgrouse (pteroclidae) and bustard (otididae) which is known as the coquettish dancer of desert. Bustard is one of the significant species of this area whose passionate dance is very famous among desert lovers. You can visit the beautiful Tagh Forest that has grown in the heart of the desert and also the sand dunes which have gifted an unbelievable landscape to the area. After some offroading on the sand hills, at 7:00 PM, we will get into Abuzeidabad town and from there, with unforgettable memories, drive back to Esfahan.
