Malek Al-Tojar antique hotel in Yazd was built around 200 years ago. It used to be a house owned by Haj Ali Asgar-e Shirazi, one of the merchants living in the city. The hotel was first opened in the year 2000, and renovated later in 2015. The four-star hotel is considered as one of the first mudbrick luxury hotels in Iran.
Located in the heart of Yazd, Malek Al-Tojar Hotel is within a walking distance from many of Yazd’s popular tourist attractions. Guests can walk to Khan Bathhouse and Khan Bazaar, visit Yazd Water Museum, Amir Chakhmagh Historical Complex, and Coppersmiths Bazaar. At a longer distance from the hotel are Vaziri Museum, Alexander’s Prison, Jameh Mosque of Yazd and Lariha House Museum. Meanwhile, guests can also walk to Shish Badgir Ab Anbar, one of the interesting cisterns of the city. Another notable attraction is Dowlat Abad Garden, which is only 2.5 kilometers away from the house. In addition to these, guests can access the attractions outside Shiraz as well as the airport easily.
The walls and ceiling of many rooms in this hotel are designed by elaborate arts and paintings. Many of these paintings follow the Shirazi style and incorporate gold as a kind of color. You can see many such paintings in Narenjestan room. Another uniquely designed room is the mirror room, where the walls and ceiling are covered by mirrorwork art.
Additionally, unique Iranian traditional architecture is used in designing the house. Upon entrance, visitors walk into a long vestibule surrounded by high-rising walls. The vestibule leads to the main courtyard of the house, centered by an Iranian style pool. This courtyard together with some of the underground rooms serve as a restaurant today. The house included separate rooms used during the cold and warm seasons of the year. Another feature of the hotel is its wind catcher, which is almost inseparable from historical houses of Yazd.
