Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Ahvaz / Explore Shushtar
Day 1 Arrival in Ahvaz / Explore Shushtar

We will arrive in Ahvaz, early in the morning. Then we will have breakfast, and visit the city and Karoon River. Next, we will drive to Haft-Tappeh hills (which have been turned into excavation sites). A short distance away is the Tchogha-Zanbil Ziggurat (dating back to the Elamite Reign in the ancient times). Then in the afternoon, we will explore Shushtar’s historical hydraulic system and watermills. We will have lunch in the traditional Mostofi Museum and Restaurant and spend the night in Shushtar.

Day 2 / Shimbar
Day 2 / Shimbar

On this morning, we will head for the Negin Bridge and Shimbar Waterfall. Lunch will be served in a local house. Here is the last point where we have access to electricity. After lunch, we will also visit Dezpart Steps if we had time. We will hike for 3 to 4 hours in the afternoon, to get to nomads’ black tents in Zagros Mountains. We will enjoy dinner with nomads and rest in their cozy tents. On the next day the nomads’ migration begins, so we need to rest well for the night.

Day 3 / An Expedition to Nomad Land
Day 3 / An Expedition to Nomad Land

On the third day starts our remarkable adventure with the nomadic tribes. We call it the day of ‘kuch’, which means migration in Farsi. We will accompany the nomads for 3 days on their migration in Zagros mountain ranges, and learn about their authentic lifestyle. In the morning, we will take in the beauties of the nature, and views of the flocks scattered in green pastures.

Day 4 / An Expedition to Nomad Land
Day 4 / An Expedition to Nomad Land

Our schedule will be ‘flexible’, since nomads’ routine is all about flexibility in the first place. But we are expected to hike for an overall distance of 42 kilometers. Imposing mountains and oak trees will surround our trail. The sheep will move and the sound of the bells hanging on their necks will boost the mood. We will walk behind the flocks in Zagros Mountains and devour the scenic beauty of the area. In the afternoon, the march will come to a temporary stop. The nomads will set up their black tents where we will stay for the night, touched by a cool mountain breeze. The nights of the migration are quite enchanting, specially when the weather is good.

Day 5 / An Expedition to Nomad Land
Day 5 / An Expedition to Nomad Land

On the 5th day, we will leave the nomads and go on our expedition to the beautiful village of Khouye. Here, after 3 days with the nomads, we will lodge in a cozy village house and stay there for the night. It will be the most comfortable option after hiking for kilometers. Large fruit gardens and curious old village houses are expecting us in Khouye. The village also promises wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Day 6 Depart Nomads / Back to Civilization
Day 6 Depart Nomads / Back to Civilization

On the next day, we will have breakfast and say goodbye to our host family. Then we will have the chance to explore the village. Afterwards, we will visit an amazing stepped village called Sar Agha Seyyed. In a stepped village like this, the houses are built over each other, slanting slightly towards a hill or mountain. In a sense, the yard of a house functions as the roof for the house below and the sequence repeats.
Zagros mountains and the areas surrounding them have always been the toughest part of the nomads’ migration. That is why they always stop in this village when they migrate to winter or summer pastures. In fact, this has been their habit for thousands of years.
After hiking for 15 minutes, we will visit a salt mine close to Sar Agha Seyyed Village. Afterwards we will stop in Chelgerd and continue our trip to Koohrang Spring. This is considered as the biggest natural water spring in Iran. However, travelers rarely visit the spring because of the rough road leading to the area. At night, we will return to Chelgerd and spend the night at a hotel.

Day 7 / Return to Isfahan
Day 7 / Return to Isfahan

On the last day of our trip we will still have some sightseeing. We will visit Dimeh Spring and plains in Koohrang which are famous for their reverse tulips. Afterwards, we will drive to Shahr-e Kord and Isfahan.
